About the author:
Cara Hunter is a British crime novelist best known for the DI Adam Fawley series, set in and around Oxford, where she lives herself. Her first book in the series, Close to Home (2018), was a Sunday Times bestseller and was nominated for Crime Book of the Year at the British Book Awards 2019.
The third book, No Way Out, was selected by the Sunday Times as one of the “100 Best Crime Novels Since 1945”. The sixth book, Hope to Die (2024), and the upcoming seventh, Making a Killing (2025), continue her streak of smartly plotted, character-driven thrillers.
In 2023, her standalone novel Murder in the Family became an instant New York Times bestseller and a social media sensation, blending cold-case intrigue with a true-crime documentary format—and it’s already slated for TV adaptation.
Her books are praised for their clever twists, psychological depth, and realistic police settings. To date, her novels have sold over one million copies, been translated into nearly thirty languages, and have TV rights sold to ongoing development projects.
Before becoming an author, Hunter studied English at Oxford, and had a 15-year career in the City and public relations, including creating a philanthropic initiative that brought clean water to millions in Africa—an experience she cites as shaping her values and commitment.
She lives in Oxford on a street much like the ones featured in her novels—a fitting home for a writer whose work deeply evokes that city. There is very little other information regarding place and date of birth.
