James Luceno is an American author widely recognised for his work in science fiction, especially his contributions to the expanded universe of Star Wars. A seasoned writer with a talent for weaving intricate lore, Luceno has helped shape the backstory of some of the franchise’s most iconic characters and events.

Before becoming a major name in tie-in fiction, Luceno worked as a travel writer and co-authored several novels with the late Brian Daley, including books under the shared pen name Jack McKinney for the Robotech series. He also contributed to other science fiction and fantasy franchises, such as The Mask of Zorro novelisation and The Shadow.

Luceno’s major breakthrough came through his deep involvement with Star Wars novels. He wrote several acclaimed titles in the Legends line (formerly the Expanded Universe), including:

•Darth Plagueis – a fan-favourite novel delving into the Sith's secret history.
