Place of birth: Skelleftehamn, Sweden

About the author:
Stieg Larsson was a Swedish journalist, editor, and novelist whose Millennium trilogy became a global phenomenon. Born in 1954 in Skelleftehamn, Sweden, Larsson spent much of his professional life as a tireless investigative journalist. He was the founder and editor-in-chief of Expo, a magazine dedicated to exposing right-wing extremism and authoritarian movements in Sweden and beyond. His activism and deep concern for justice heavily informed his fiction.

Though Larsson had written fiction earlier in life, it was only late in his career that he completed the Millennium trilogy—The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest. Featuring the unforgettable characters of hacker Lisbeth Salander and journalist Mikael Blomkvist, the novels explore corruption, abuse, and institutional failure, wrapped in page-turning suspense and sharp social commentary.

Tragically, Larsson died of a heart attack in 2004 at the age of 50, before any of his novels were published. Posthumously, his books achieved massive international success, selling tens of millions of copies and inspiring numerous film and television adaptations. Today, Stieg Larsson is remembered not only as a master of crime fiction, but also as a committed journalist who never stopped fighting for truth and equality.
