About the author:
Sir Terry Pratchett (1948–2015) was a beloved English author best known for his Discworld series, a satirical and fantastical exploration of a flat world balanced on the backs of four elephants standing on a giant turtle. Born on April 28, 1948, in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, Pratchett developed a love for storytelling and writing at a young age. He published his first short story at 13 and later worked as a journalist.

Pratchett’s debut novel, The Carpet People (1971), showcased his talent for blending humour and fantasy. However, it was the Discworld series, beginning with The Colour of Magic (1983), that catapulted him to international fame. The series spans 41 novels and features iconic characters like Rincewind, Death, and Granny Weatherwax, exploring themes such as politics, religion, and humanity with wit and insight.

In 2007, Pratchett was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease, a challenge he faced with characteristic humour and advocacy for greater awareness and research. He continued to write until his passing on March 12, 2015.

Knighted in 2009 for his contributions to literature, Pratchett left an indelible mark on fantasy fiction. His works, translated into dozens of languages, have sold over 85 million copies and continue to inspire readers worldwide with their intelligence, humour, and heart.
