About the Book Shed... (website)

House

This website has been on my mental "to do" list for many years. I love to read; I have a phobia of not having my next book ready for when I finish my current one. I used to dislike reading and found that I just hadn't found the right types of books. My grandmother was a voracious reader and would often get through a library book in a day. She and her sisters used to visit the many local libraries when they sold off their stock and buy all the detective & murder mystery books then share them on a rotation to keep them in books between visits to the libraries. She also used to share them with my mother and later, with me. These books opened an entire medium of entertainment that I had been blind to until then.

I am a slow reader, in actual fact, I am a very thorough reader and so get through books slower than I would like to (but I am getting better). This answers the question of why so many of the books that I read are 4 or 5 out of 5, and the answer is that if I only get through 12 to 20 books a year, I research each one thoroughly to ensure that I am going to enjoy it!

I became immensely frustrated in around 2008 when I started to read a book and found after a few chapters that I had read it some years before, I was far from impressed and I started to write lists of the books that I read to avoid this happening. Soon after, it went from paper to Excel and I also noted a score so that I could advise myself to revisit an author or to stay away. I sadly lost lots of paper and some of the files corrupted. I eventually moved to GoodReads and I tried to update it with my old records. One day, I realised how dependent I have become on the site and decided to make my own along with the professional education site that I have written and manage. This site, however, is a labour of love and I just sink into my own little world of books.
