About the author:
Scott Sigler is a #1 New York Times bestselling American author of science fiction and horror, widely recognised as a pioneer in the "podiobook" movement. Born on November 30, 1969, in Cheboygan, Michigan, he is celebrated for his "hard" science fiction—often blending high-stakes biological horror with grounded, technical realism.
Early Life and Education:
Growing up in Michigan, Sigler’s imagination was fueled by a love for classic monster movies (inherited from his father) and an early exposure to diverse literature encouraged by his mother, a school teacher. He attended Olivet College and Cleary College, earning a BA in Journalism and a BS in Marketing. Before finding success as a novelist, he held an eclectic array of jobs, including fruit picking, sports reporting, and working as a marketing director for software startups.
The "Podiobook" Revolution:
Sigler is perhaps most famous for revolutionising how authors reach audiences. In 2005, after facing numerous rejections from traditional publishers, he became the first person to release a novel—EarthCore—entirely as a serialised, free podcast.
The Junkies: This move birthed a fiercely loyal fanbase known as "Sigler Junkies."
Hall of Fame: His success in the medium led to his induction as an inaugural member of the Podcast Hall of Fame in 2015.
Mainstream Success: The massive download numbers (now exceeding 50 million) eventually caught the attention of major publishers, leading to a multi-book deal with Crown Publishing.
Notable Works and Series:
Sigler’s bibliography is extensive, often featuring interconnected "Siglerverse" elements:
• Infected Trilogy: His breakout mainstream hit (Infected, Contagious, and Pandemic), which follows a terrifying alien "seed" infection that turns humans into hyper-violent hosts.
• The Galactic Football League (GFL): A genre-bending YA series that combines space opera with the gritty world of professional American football.
• Ancestors (2007): A biological thriller about the resurrection of a prehistoric predator.
• Aliens: Phalanx (2020): A unique entry in the Alien franchise that places Xenomorphs in a medieval, pre-industrial setting.
• The Slay Series (2024–2026): His recent focus, featuring a high-octane supernatural thriller narrative that continues to be serialised via his Scott Sigler Slices podcast.
Personal Life:
Now based in San Diego, California, Sigler remains an active musician, playing bass guitar in various bands (including the "Superweapon" project). He is also an avid Master Knitter and a dedicated fan of the NFL and Newcastle United. He continues to release free fiction every Sunday, maintaining his 20-year streak of weekly podcasting.
